Morning came, the sun rose over the horizon and the early rays beat off of the velvety pelt of Deluca, who happened to be roaming the exterior corridors of an old abandoned prison. The concrete was cool against his paw pads, and he noticed grass growing between the cracks. It had been months since the outbreak, but life didn't change for the stray. He was on his own - well, other than being accompanied by Feara, who was also a stray. Speaking of which.. where was the husky? Deluca stopped and gave a growl, looking around.

Feara was in the prison yard, on a hill, watching the sun rise. A serene moment that she was taking full advantage of before Deluca made her go into town to get food and supplies. A growl from a distance met her ears. She perked up and looked over her shoulder, only to return her gaze to the sun and the color changing sky. Just one more moment.

Moe and Rook had settled down in the prison for the night after declaring it safe enough. Moe was laying down on the edge of one of the cots, sleeping peacefully until the sound of a growl met his ears. "Rook! Wake up!" He squeaked, jumping to his tiny feet. No response... The grey rat turned around to see that the cot was empty. The cell was empty. Oh no. That dog gotten himself in trouble again, hadn't he? Moe jumped down to the cold concrete floor. It felt uncomfortable on his small toes. Quietly, he shuffled out of the cell, walking with his side almost touching the wall and occasionally pausing to sniff the air. His curly whiskers twitched as he picked up the scent of a dog that wasn't his friend. He stopped to a halt as he finally spotted a black figure in the corridor. That's definitely not Rook...

Feeling safe enough, Rook had decided to head outside to the yard. He needed to get fresh air but hadn't wanted to wake up his tiny friend. He made his way through an open door, setting his paw on softer ground and breathing in the crisp morning air. However his relief was soon washed away as he heard the growl from inside the building. He whipped his head around, practically jumping at the sound. Doing so, he knocked over an old broom that had been leaning against the wall.

Deluca had his nose to the ground, following Feara's scent that was still fresh. It was leading to outside - of course. He quickened his pace from a walk to a jog and began to make his way outside. Until a loud clank made him snap his head to his left.

"Who's there?!" Deluca barked, turning to close in on the unidentified sound. He rounded a corner and wasted no time in growling at the perpetrator, and the broom that fell behind him.

Feara, too, heard the noise from the building and she thought she'd best check it out before Deluca got to it. She arose and stretched real quick before spinning around and running to the source, but she could already see Deluca was there, and the unfamiliar brown and white dog. Oooooo Feara was in trouble.

Rook instantly regretted leaving the cell. His ears flattened when the doberman appeared from behind the corner. Looking over his shoulder, he saw the other dog and realized he had little to no way of escaping them. When had they come? Surely they weren't here when him and Moe had scouted the place last night. "Please don't hurt me..." he whimpered, tucking his tail between his legs and glancing around.

Hearing the clank of the broom and seeing the dark canine hurry around the corner, Moe bolted after him, his feet pattering on the concrete. Turning the corner he quickly spotted the doberman and Rook. As soon as he did, he sprinted under the doberman, slowing down at Rook's paws and climbing onto his back. From his vantage point he now also saw the husky. Since she was behind Rook, Moe took it as his job to keep an eye on her.

It was Feara's duty the night before to watch the perimeter. For good reason, too. They couldn't trust any thing or any one right now. Her attention moved from the shrunken, younger lad to Deluca then to the rat that made abrupt eye contact with her. She was a bit flabbergasted, were they friends? She couldn't take her eyes off of the rat.

Deluca on the other hand was not phased by the grey critter scuttling under him and towards the dog. He choked back a growl and simply just huffed with narrowed eyes.

"What's your name, boy? And how did you get here?"

Rook flinched slightly as the rat scaled up his fur.

"It's Rook... We just walked in, me and Moe. It was late so we thought this would be a good place to spend the night..." he spluttered. Did they really miss all the signs of these two other dogs? Are there more of them? His mind was racing with questions.

Moe stared back at the other dog, swaying his head just slightly to gauge the distance. He'd be ready to jump if she did anything weird. Would it be extremely reckless and likely fatal? Most likely. But if that's what he had to do, he'd do it. Offense is the best defence, that's what he had learned.

Feara continued to watch the rat and as its head moved to and fro so did her head. She couldn't help but half-smile, thinking it was a game rather than the rat pondering its attack. Her tail that curled over her lower back began to wag ever so slightly.

Deluca still looked down on Rook. He looked over and listened to the male, wondering if he could use him to his advantage. He rolled his shoulders, muscles quivering under his skin.

"A good place to spend the night," Deluca echoed, "great, so you two were on your way out." Deluca moved circle Rook, but only made it half-circle before he side-eyed Feara. "Feara, show these two parasites out of my prison."

Feara jolted at Deluca's booming voice as he spoke her name. It was then she finally broke eye contact with the rodent and her tail stopped moving.

"W-why? Can't they stay? We could use more guards from the cannibals," she spoke gently, her small triangular ears perking towards the doberman.

Moe looked to Feara, confused and slightly offended by her small smile and wagging tail.

Rook did his best to avoid eye-contact with the much more intimidating dog, though his his ears twitched at the comment of leaving. He'd much rather stay here than leave, but at the same time he'd rather go peacefully than fight.

However Moe wasn't feeling as submissive, turning his attention to the doberman. "Excuse me? Did you just call us parasites???" He huffed, his wavy, gray hair puffing up.

Rook have the rat a glance to shut up. "S-sorry about him... We don't want any trouble."

Deluca looked at Feara for a good while, as if they were communicating through their eye contact. The dobe knew she had a point but his pride wouldn't admit it. It wasn't until a difference voice made Deluca and Feara look back at Rook, identifying that it was the rat that spoke up towards Deluca. Feara's jaw dropped, she was today-years-old when she found out that dogs could understand rats. She never tried to have a conversation with one. Deluca on the other hand peeled his lips back towards the rodent.

"Did I stutter?" He growled, but then stopped after a second or two. A little puny rat wasn't worth it. Deluca shifted his gaze to Rook. "You can stay or you can leave. If you stay you work for me, capeesh? I need to make sure we don't have any more stowaways. Feara, take care of them." And with that, Deluca turned and sauntered off, leaving Feara there, still flabbergasted by the rat.
