Custom Decor Rules
Posted 2021-01-27 04:14:42 (edited)

Custom decors were introduced in Development Update #5.  They are a unique way for the skilled and talented artists on Wolvden to express themselves through gorgeous, adorable, silly, or gruesome decorations that may not fit within the official realm of Wolvden.  With custom decors, you can make your original characters come to life, tie up the last missing piece of your perfect customisation, add onto an existing official decor, and much more!  The possibilities are... almost endless.

To submit your own custom decor, you'll need to purchase a Custom Decor Creator, which can be found in the Grove with a price tag of 10 GC.

Custom Decor Creator.  This item allows you to submit a custom decor for Wolvden's artists to review.  Your decor must follow the guidelines and art style linked in the item's page, which displays upon use.  This information is available in the sticky topic in the Art forums!

Be sure to read through this topic before you buy!  If you've purchased a Custom Decor Creator too soon, you can refund it through the Grove within one hour of the item being purchased on your account through the Grove Refunds page.

If you are planning on purchasing or using a Custom Decor Creator item, you must read through these rules to avoid having your submission rejected.

Clicking the "Create Custom Decor" button will take you to the "Custom Decor Creation" page, which lists out all of the following information.

Welcome to the custom decor creation tool. Here, you can submit your very own custom decors to appear in game! You will have already had to draw your decors.

All decors made must be of good quality to fit in with Wolvden's style of art, and fit the 640x500 canvas. Please see our Art Style Tutorial thread for more details! You must also design an item image to fit a 92x92 canvas - please be aware that the custom decor border will be applied to this to make it a 100x100 image.

All decors must be accepted by an Administrator before they are released onto the site. If your decor is rejected, you will be informed of the reason why, and the item refunded to your hoard. You are able to resubmit a rejected decor after making edits based on the rejection reason.

Rules

  1. No photographs or photomanipulations are to be used, including photos that you took yourself, or free-use photos.
  2. No 3D images.
  3. No copyright or trademarked characters (ex. Spiderman, Pikachu, Digimon, Scooby Doo, etc).
  4. We do not expect all submissions to be sterling art quality but we request that users refrain from submitting MS-Paint or pixeled images, or from submitting art that generally does not fit the quality expected on Wolvden. We ask that users try to match Wolvden's art style by adding shading and fine lineart.
  5. No bases, fur designs, or markings, unless they can pass as actual decors. Acceptable examples would be: body paint or tattoos instead of markings; fur extensions with extras such as expressions, ornaments, and scars; bases with body morphs, galactic swirls, etc.
  6. Do not use art that does not belong to you or wasn't drawn by you.
  7. If the art was made by somebody who gave you permission to use it, add their ID number in the artist field.
  8. Custom Decor art must be drawn either by yourself or by someone on Wolvden. Any art made by somebody outside of Wolvden will be rejected.
  9. Tracing over photos that you didn't take doesn't make it your art and isn't okay.
  10. Reusing Wolvden's existing decor files to create custom decors is not allowed. Your art must be uniquely drawn, even if it's mimicking existing decors for mutations (for example, "Opal Jewelry for Dwarves"). Note: drawing your own official Wolvden decor versions for mutations is fine!
  11. You may use Wolvden's bases and lineart to create your own custom decor art, such as body paint (i.e. clipping lineart layers to preserve shading continuity), but you still need to create designs that are unique enough so that our assets are not the main part of the decor.
  12. No pornographic, sexual, or gory images.
  13. Custom decorations which are already provided by the game in some way will not be accepted. For example: backgrounds, realistic markings, scars, dirt, minor modifications to features such as claws (adding a gradient, etc).
  14. Memes are not permitted, but we will accept humorous images.
  15. All submissions must abide by the Terms of Service and Code of Conduct of the site.

Once you check off "I agree to these rules and wish to continue", you will then be taken to a page that looks roughly similar to the below—just with some added text fields, dropdowns, and radio buttons.

Item Image URL
You will need to upload your item image to an image hosting server and pass us the URL. When your decor is accepted, the image will be uploaded to our server. Images must be 92x92 and in .png format.

Custom Decor Name
Enter the name for your custom decor here. Make sure it is not already taken by other items or custom decors in game, and is appropriate.

Custom Decor Description
Write the description for your custom decor here. This will be displayed on the use item page, and catalogues.

Custom Decor Artist ID #
Enter the Wolvden account ID number of the artist for this custom decor. List multiple IDs separated by commas with no spaces (e.g. 123,456,789)

Layer Type
- Below Wolf
- Above Wolf
Choose the order the decor should layer on a wolf's image. "Below" layering will layer before the wolf is loaded, but above backgrounds. "Above" will layer on top of the wolf.

Custom Decor Type
- Universal
- Stage Specific
Choose the type of decor your custom decor will be. Universal decors will use the same image across all wolf variants and life stages, whereas stage specific have a different image uploaded for each stage.

After all of these fields are filled out, and you click the "Submit Decor" button, the custom decor will then go into an approval queue, where it will remain pending until it is approved or rejected.  If you've made an error with your custom decor submission, submit a Modbox ticket before it is approved in order to get another chance at submitting it!

If your custom decor is approved, you will receive 3 copies of your custom decor to start off with.  Additional copies will cost you 5 GC each to purchase.  You can set your own price to sell custom decors through the automated sale system (keep in mind that the 5 GC fee is mandatory, and setting it higher than 5 means you will receive any additional GC), or you can purchase your own copies to keep them exclusive.  Each copy of a custom decor comes with 10 uses.

If your custom decor is rejected, you will be given a Game Notification explaining exactly why your submission was rejected (whether due to a conflicting art style, a layering issue, or otherwise) and the Custom Decor Creator item will be returned back to your hoard.  If you are unable to edit your custom decor according to our artists' suggestions, or you'd like to resign from submitting your custom decor after all, you can request to have the item refunded via the Modbox (provided you purchased the Custom Decor Creator item yourself directly through the Grove—you cannot have it gifted to you or purchase it from another player, then ask for a refund).

If you are curious about whether a custom decor concept is something that Wolvden's artists would approve, you are encouraged to PM either Katze (#3) or Xylax (#4) directly on Wolvden to receive input from the Administrator team.  Do not ask on this topic whether a concept would be allowed or is against the rules—the purpose of this topic is to provide a view on the expectations for custom decors before the item has been purchased.

If you are not an artist...
All artwork must come from a commission made specifically on Wolvden.  You cannot commission someone off-site to make a custom decor for you on Wolvden.  To protect the rights of artists, we require some sort of permission statement from an artist on Wolvden to ensure they are aware of what their artwork is being used for.  The best way to commission someone would be to either create a topic looking for custom decor artists or post on a player's commission topic where they are offering custom decor commissions.

For stage specific decor, could I choose to have a decor only available for adult wolves? Or would I have to include all 4 pup stages as well?

Do decors need to have art that works for mutations?

@Kualti

You can have decors that just apply to adults! In fact many of the decors available atm are adult only! At the moment there's no option for decors to be applied to mutations, so they definitely don't need to!

In the future there seems to be a planned update to make decors for mutations/lethals, but at the moment there isn't - so you could make a decor just for adults and that would be fine :)

I’ve had my custom decor rejected for the second time due to a technical issue..

I was told that the upper part of my design is shifted and begins above the wolf. I don’t know what this means to be able to fix it?? The decor is a necklace.

Download an image of a wolf, reposition it over the wolf, turn off the wolf layer, save it as a png

That’s what I’ve done though... I’ll try it again and see how it goes, thank you!
