"Are you awake young one? The ceremony will begin soon, the sun is finally about to set."

The Tribe of Flashing Lights is a tribe of determined, close-knit hearts and of devotion to their connection with nature. They make their home in a marshland at the foot of a great mountain they call the Mother's Tooth, and while other tribes may make their homes in the mountains, the cats of the Tribe of Flashing Lights reveres the Mother's Tooth as a place where the dead are laid to rest. The land they walk on is frequented by will-o-the-wisp, which they simply call the Lights, and are seen as their ancestors returning to earth. The relic of metal in their camp that they call the Tall Claw- what's left of an old radio tower, is also the source of St. Elmo's Fire, that causes the broken top to glow eerily prior to storms.

Our Home

Living in a marshland, what may first come to mind is a life of soaked fur and miserable hunting, but that's not always the case. The ground here is only saturated for the season of Newleaf, water remains through Greenleaf but the raised tussocks are dry and easily roamed, the water dwindles in Leaf-Fall and the ground dries and becomes hard in Leafbare. Our encampment is a large raised mound in the marsh, surrounded by dense phragmites. In the center, what's left of an old, rusting metal structure juts out of the earth, three pointed spikes like claws reaching into the sky. At the base of the metal structure is where our Bright Heart and their Lightbearers may address the tribe.

Those Passed On

When a cat of the tribe, or those who may be close to us otherwise passes away, their body is carefully laid out on a mat of reed and cattail. Loved ones may dress their pelt in feathers or flowers to honour them, and as a family the body is carried up to Mother's Tooth. Their life is remembered in a usually short ceremony, and the body is left on a plateau of Mother's Tooth where scavengers may take their fill. Their soul may then venture higher up the mountain, where once they reach the skyline, they take their place among the lights that fill our night sky, returning to us in brief glimpses of flashing in the marsh.

The LightsWe revere the land that supports us, for it gives us the unique opportunity to see our loved ones that have been taken back to its warm hearth. Our tribe is most active at night, and it gives us the chance to see the lights that roam the marshland. Slow moving and fizzling out as soon as they appear, the lights come in many different colours, but are often light blue or greenish. The hearts of our loved ones long-passed guide us in the dark, accompany us on our patrols and wish us luck for bountiful hunts.

As well, rarely the points atop the Tall Claw begin to glow in stormy weather. Lightbearers receive the strongest messages from the Lights during this event. It's not uncommon for a new Lightbearer to awaken during this as well, as strong emotions may stir within even very young cats. As the time of the glow of the Tall Claw grows near, we can feel it in our pelts, tingling and lifting of the fur without reason.

Ranks

Bright Heart: What a clan would call our Leader, they are in tune with the tribe and do their best to lead us through many seasons.

Lightbearers: Most similar to a clan's Medicine Cats, they have a direct connection with the Lights, although only a few have the skill to handle medicine and heal cats.

Hunters: As the name suggests, they are the primary hunters of the tribe. This doesn't mean that they only hunt, as any cat can fight bravely in battle, but they feel most at home stalking the rushes and hillocks.

Guards: Cats that make their living in the tribe as protectors and guardians. They take patrols out to the edge of the territory and confront any dangers. They may hunt if they wish, but it's not their main goal.

To-Be: Young cats in training to become hunters and guards, however a Lightbearer or Bright Heart to-be may be an adult as well. Unlike some tribes, the leader doesn't choose the path the kit walks and apart from Lightbearer, the role they choose is up to the kit. If they can't decide, it's often a decision made by the tribe as a whole.

Kit-Mothers and Nestmates: Cats who are expecting, nursing or tending to kits. Cats can choose whether they'd prefer to be called a Kit-Mother or Nestmate, the latter being at coined at first to refer to gender-neutral cats or toms who tend to kittens, but they can decide to be called Kit-Mothers if they are more comfortable with that. It's also not uncommon for elders or cats who cannot hunt or patrol to ease into becoming a nestmate as it's about caring for the families just as much as the kittens themselves.

Elders: Cats of the tribe who have retired from their duties. They may take their well-deserved rest, although that doesn't stop some from assisting patrols or going out for a leisurely hunt.

Kits: From birth, up until they become a to-be. Unlike in the harsh territory of the mountains, kits typically become to-bes at around six moons like the clans, although it's not rare for a cat to wait a little longer.

This is a really interesting idea for a clan! I'd like to join the RP when it starts :)

Hi guys! Sorry I didn't reply right away. I'm not especially good at getting roleplays off the ground, but if I did finish, this would definitely be on-site. :)
