Suggestion: Herbalist Can Search for Specific Herbs

Suggestion: Herbalist Can Search for Specific Herbs
Posted 2020-11-04 17:55:15 (edited)

Today, I was wondering why Herbalists can't be set out for something specific. It makes sense if they're past a certain level of proficiency they would know where to find certain herbs. So, here's my idea.

I think once a Herbalist is 50%+ Proficiency, they have the ability to "Search".

Much like Rescouting, you can send a Herbalist with full energy out for a specific herb that you need. However, the same rules for Foraging apply, which means you can't send them out searching for something like Aloe in the Tundra. The herbs you send them out for must be found in your particular biome. It takes 100% energy and takes 100 minutes, just like Rescouting. Obviously, the Herbalist can't do anything while out Searching.

When they return from Search, they are guaranteed to have a little bit of experience and two of the specific herb/item, just like with Rescouting. They could maybe have a small chance of a bonus to either Smarts or Wisdom as well, just like Rescouting.

I had this idea because sometimes it's really frustrating to know that a herb is in your biome, but your attempts at Foraging give you everything BUT what you need. I feel that "Search" will allow people to get 2 of the items they need without being too easy since full Energy is needed.

I know that you can exchange three Herbs for any 1 Herb you need, but that's not limited to a specific biome or energy so I feel that Search will be something good to add to Herbalists to give them a bit more use.

In order for my idea to get added to the game, I think the following will be required:
1. Coding (possibly just a bit of tweaking from Rescouting since it's very similar) - they could leave the energy and time requirements alone, but just tweak so only a specific request pair of herbs would be the reward.

2: Writing? - they might have to write a little bit of "Your Herbalist returns, tired but pleased, setting the request herbs at your paws"?

Thank you for considering my suggestion!

Support! Something like this would make a lot of sense and wouldn't really change much which herbs you can get from your home. Just makes it a little easier to get what you need.

I don't really think this is necessary. It was also mess with the market; and you can already exchange 3 herbs for a different one.

If you want better odds of finding a certain herb you could just move to that biome?

I support. I like the idea of the herbalist having to be at least 50+ proficiency. Maybe certain herbs need a certain skill to be a certain level? Like the scouts who need 101 wisdom to scout the tundra. That would make it a little harder to go after certain herbs so that the 3:1 trade for herbs isn't completely abandoned?

@Crowley
The idea is they can only go after herbs directly in the biome your pack is in. So you'd have be in the Tundra to get any Tundra-exclusive herbs. And if you were in some place like the Grasslands, you couldn't send them out for Aloe or anything. I didn't think it should be too overpowered.

@Sienna Snow
The problem it's addressing is what if you're already in the proper biome but you have poor RNG luck? If you want to get herbs OUTSIDE of your biome, you can still do the exchange. You could only have your Herbalist Search for herbs found in your biome. So, say you're in the Desert and you need Ringworm Salve. You're short some Oregano and you send your Herbalist out Foraging, but they keep bringing back nothing but Arnica even though Oregano is found in the Desert. You can wait for them to be at Full Energy and sent them out specifically for 2 Oregano.

You couldn't, however, send them out for Kava or Pineapple Leaf. You still have to do the exchange. Yes, you could just exchange for the Oregano, but if you're already in the proper biome, I think it just makes sense your Herbalist can search for the specific herb at the cost of Full Energy.

I still think some things like what herbs you end up getting should not be controllable, but I understand your argument.
