Adjust Chat Box Reporting

Adjust Chat Box Reporting
Posted 2020-11-04 15:33:00

If you've ever reported someone in the chat box, you've probably seen that its pretty... Lacking. There is no way so specify what you're reporting for, which can make it hard to get across what exactly you need mods to take notice of.

For example, say you see someone advertising an auction or sales thread in which they say they have an Arkose and a 400 stat pup up for grabs. You click the link, and inside you find that the Arkose and the 400 stat pup have already been bought out. Since the user was using these to advertise their thread, this counts as false advertising. But, when you report the message in the chat box its hard to be sure that the mod who investigates will actually understand why you reported that specific message.

So, I propose that the chat box reporting feature get a small face lift. Allow us to either put in or select a reason for reporting, the same way that you can when you file a non-chat box based report. This would help improve moderation in chat and make it easier on staff when they're trying to figure out why the heck a certain message was reported when it seems to be fine on the surface.

Is false advertising against the CoC? I skimmed but couldn't find anything. And to be fair, it could have been bought out inbetween the time of them posting and you checking the trade? Or do you mean something else?

You can report specifically for false advertising through the modbox, so I would assume it is against the rules yes.

And what I mean by this is specifically when people advertise a thread with certain pups, and then when you go to the thread those pups were bought out several days ago but are still being used as an advertisement for the thread. But of course this is just a broad example of something that can seem like a weird message to report, but does have a legitimate reason to be reported and can be difficult to get across to moderators given the very limited report function in the chat box.

Ah, okay, that makes sense. I think I would support if it were a minor addition - like 3 options to further clarify. It's usually pretty easy to tell what the problem is but it would help to specify in such cases.
