Limit the Number of Trades a Player Can Post

Limit the Number of Trades a Player Can Post
Posted 2020-11-03 12:45:59 (edited)

I would like to suggest a limit for the number of PUBLIC trades that a player can post at any given time.

The reason for this is many people will absolutely flood the Trading Center with single item trades. And since there is a 30 day limit to the trade, but no limit to how many, they can easily have 300+ trades up. And due to them posting them all at once, the first few pages are literally nothing but the same trade over and over. This frequently causes lag and definitely causes the server some strain because every time someone pushes "Search", it has to go through 1500+ pages.

I understand that search filters help, but they are not perfect and many people use tricks to get around them, such as adding a single SC to every trade to make their trades show up if someone is looking for currency. And there is little way to improve the search filters in a way that won't still have people getting around them. Plus, adapting the search filters will not lessen the massive load of 30,000+ trades at any given time. All of which the search feature has to go through whenever someone is trying to narrow down a massive, flooded amount of trades.

I understand that many people use the Trading Center to exchange SC to GC and vice versa, which is why I understand that any limit added must be reasonable and fair to them. The current suggestion is anywhere from 50-100 trades. This would still allow people to have a good amount of trades, generate and exchange their currency, but help to keep the Trading Center a bit more manageable.

NOTE: This would not apply to PRIVATE Trades, which do not show up to the Public and are not searched by the Trading Center. So this is only a limit for PUBLIC Trades.

UPDATED: 11/20 to clarify and tweak a bit due to suggestions.

Support maybe? I could definitely see a limit on trades, but 25-30 is too low. I understand it's frustrating to see people posting the same trade numerous times, but as an active trader that has only 1 of each trade up, even I have 40 trades minimum at any time.

Also, if this was to be implemented, private trades should absolutely not count. It would suck to have my normal trades clogged up because pup buyers need some time to buy.

I definitely agree that private trades wouldn't count toward the limit since they're not going to show up and clog searches, etc.

I don't think I support.

Trading is a fundamental part of this game and feeling limited about it I don't feel I'd enjoy. While it can be a bit overwhelming to see 30 trades for someone swapping GC to SC, the trade screen moves so fast that you'd only need to refresh once or twice and they'll be off the front again. If you're waiting for something specific to pop up you can just search for it, or if you want to catch a good deal you'll be refreshing anyway.

Trading items is one of the only ways that I can make any SC right now, it is absolutely necessary to my game. Limiting the amount of trading I can do would seriously put me in a bad mood, and make me rethink spending as much GC as I do in the game. I’m also going to have to disagree because we desperately need the SC/GC movement in the game. The financial system is still severely out of wack right now, and until it stabilizes I just don’t know if we could support the infrastructure without the amount of trades we already have.

Thank you for your submission!

No support. Like other people said there's no need to punish currency trading (unless a seperate section is added like on LD)

No support. It's how I make my SC.

The problem is most of the trades aren't moving. There are trades from the same person that are 2 days from expiring that have been clogging up the searches for weeks at this point.

People put up stuff and ignore it and it ends up staying there for weeks at a time, which is an unnecessary strain on the servers, makes searching an absolute pain, and requires sending out query after query because you can't specify any order, or how many days for food, or anything like that.

It's completely unnecessary and I doubt anyone's game is going to be ruined because they couldn't put up 50 blue jay feathers for 100 SC and hope someone is going to buy one.

Having trades be limited would be easier on the server, make trades move faster, encourage people to put up things that actually sell instead of just using it as free storage to get it out of the way in their hoard by putting it up for crazy prices, and make searches a lot faster/easier on both the players and the servers themselves.

It's a lot easier on the server to find an item and see 50 trades than it is to have 15+ pages of ancient trades by people that haven't rolled over in weeks. Plus, the people searching can actually look through and find the items more quickly because the search parameters aren't very precise at all. if you put in say...an SC buyout of 25, you can get a bunch of trades for 5 GC + 25 SC, etc.

In all, having reasonable limits (something like 50 public trades at a time) would help the economy a lot more than having thousands and thousands of 2+ week old trades just sitting there, making everything slower, more laggy, and burying the decent prices in pages of ridiculous ones.

Looking at how quickly food expires in a trade just requires hovering over it though, but I know there is another suggestion topic about having it listed so hovering isn't required. I don't think this is a massive issue.

It's up to the person how much they want to price something, just because it's 5x higher than every other option, that's their choice.

I don't think people put items into the trading center just to make their hoard cleaner, there's the bury option for that.

You can set the GC buyout to 0 if you don't want to see that listed in trades if you just want to spend SC.

And the economy only exists because of trading, things fluctuate, patterns change. Why be punished for trying to make currency/items/wolves from selling?

Support, you can pretty easily fix a market to a certain price if you wish at the moment. Both a boon and a bane, but with trade slots its much more difficult to do so. This works quite well in the FFXIV economy, also makes a premium account worthwhile for earning money since you can get more slots there for a fee. obviously not infinitely scalar. food for thought.
