☯ Things That go Bump in the Dark ☯

This is a roleplay between Hollow Howls and Enjolras! You are welcome to watch, if you're that kinda weirdo, but please do not reply to this forum unless you are Enjolras or I.

What you cannot see is always more ominous than what you can see. What is different will always be feared. A clan of humans set out with their eyes on a vampiric being, well prepared to claim the life of the so called monster. As the creature gets caught in the hunt, it becomes clear that he's on the losing side. In a last stitch effort, he summons another monster to help. But will this allyship be beneficial or perhaps things will become more dangerous?

The howling of hounds filled the air, declaring that the animals had locked onto the scent and was growing near. The shouting and grunting of heavily armed men filled the gaps between the canines' calls. It appeared as though the small clan of humans seemed determined to have a successful hunt, unwilling to slow or postpone the chase. Someone had seen their target recently, lighting a fire on every member of the mob. It surely wouldn't take long to corner the creature and finish it off.

The hunt had moved to some sort of abandoned fort, the location being surprisingly less run down than one would expect. The building was fairly small, with only a pair of exits, maybe not the best idea to try and hide away from their attackers. Regardless this was where the chase had ended up and now it seemed like there was only one option remaining. Fight. With the heavily stacked odds, it seemed incredibly unlikely that they'd made it out alive, let alone unscathed.

kinda sucks but sleepy 🕶️

The creature knew he was cornered, but he refused to simply surrender. The nerve of these mere mortals were... outrageous. How dare they come together, and attack him? If he was indeed going to die here, he would go down fighting. Mortals. Curse them all. Curse them, and their hounds. He thought, hiding behind a pillar, not ideal, and he knew it.
Had it only been the humans, he would likely have had the advantage, but of course they had brought their beasts.

This was a feeling he hated, the feeling of being vulnerable, a cornered animal, in a very ironic way. He was massively outnumbered, and his only weapon was his own teeth, and the men wore armor, a perk he did not have. His cloak was pulled up, not to expose himself, but still, he stuck out, among the mob of villagers.
What a fate... whoever is in charge here, must have a terrible sense of what's funny. Actually, curse you too.

All he could do was wait, and hopefully, take a few of the mortals down with him when they came.

The irritation that grew from the creature stuck to his form like a nasty smell, twisting and wrapping around his body as he attempted to stay hidden. That roused a long dormant mind, sensing an opportunity. A small shadow drifted across the paths, easily finding the source of the negative feeling. Barking grew closer, offering a hint as to what was plaguing his target. He was being hunted, it seemed even after all these years, humans would never change. A familiar fate had become of his previous host, leaving him unable to interact with the living world. Footsteps continued to grow closer, the mounting pressure of his attacker becoming more of a threat.

"You're in danger." An ominous, deep voice hissed. "Do you plan to give up after all that work?" The voice drifted in and out, as if being carried by the wind. "You'll never survive all of them."

"If only you had help." The disembodied voice continued in an almost mocking manner, echoing around the creature's skull.

"Oh, is that what this is? I hadn't noticed. Thank you for being utterly obvious." Sarcasm dripped from his words, a low growl added for further emphasis, while trying not to be too loud, in case someone heard him.
"I am very aware that I am both outnumbered, and in danger, yes, I have somehow, noticed, and no, I have no intention of going down quietly, preferably not going down at all." His tone was low, growling, at the voice which had no body as far as he could tell, no scent to speak of either.

The humans feet came even closer, too close for comfort.
"I think you underestimate me, whoever you are, whatever you are, I, honestly don't care at all, but if you are only here to mock, or watch me slaughter mortals, until they, may, slaughter me, you could go away, if you are not here to help, or just be a very annoying voice, by all means, feel free to, kindly, get lost. If you want to help, at least show yourself."

He began moving, idly pacing, just waiting for the inevitable hoard.
"What do you want?"

A brief chuckle filled the air, amused by the attitude provided. The darker shadow cast by the pillar began to stir, a pair of abnormal red lights appearing from the shape. "I only come with an offer, a trade of sorts." Gaze following the antsy movement.

"All I ask is one thing of you and in return, I can promise your survival. In well condition as well. My request is something you can easily provide, at no cost to you." It sounded very reminiscent of a sales pitch, trying to draw the target in with something they just couldn't resist. The being was after something, anyone with a head on their shoulders would see that easily.

It was only a matter of time until the male was swarmed by his attackers and if he agreed too late.. Well, he was incapable of encouraging healing and he would have to wait for another suitable host to stumble by. "I like to call it a friendship. You only need to call on me and I can guarantee you come out of this.. situation on top. I'm more than capable of helping you here." There was a brief pause, as if to give him a moment to ponder the proposal before the voice continued. "You only need to say my name. I think that's an easy enough trade.. Don't you, friend?"

"What kind of trade would this be? Your kind always want something, don't you? Souls, maybe. I do believe that part of me is dead, and gone already, but I do like living and would very much like to continue living. So, what is it that you want from me?"
He paused, froze in his tracks.
"If this will ensure my survival, very well. I accept." There was no reluctance, because all he wanted was to get out of this, alive.

"Friendship? Highly doubt that. You see, I am not a popular person, but I suspect you're hardly the best creature around. I accept, but you didn't tell me your name." Arms crossed over his chest, eyes narrowed in some suspicion, but still, this was the best choice, if it came to that or die.

If a shadow could roll their eyes, he surely would have. Souls were so boring and short lived, he saw no point in attempting to gather them. Though, he usually had more important things to hunt for. "A smart man for sure."

"Viverce." The name came out alone, syllables sharp in an abnormal way. "Just, Viverce. You'd better hurry." The comment was emphasized as the calls of the hunters were growing louder.

He itched with energy. It had been decades since he was able to take a proper form and with all that time, he was certain that his strength was at an elevated level. The idea of the damage he could cause was beyond exciting. He would be unable to wait the second the deal was taken, already pressuring the boundaries that kept him in a docile state

"Viverce, is it? It is not the best of times to introduce myself, and I would rather not. What brought you here?" He said, heaved a sigh and watched the men approach.
"I have done my part. Now, you do yours, deal?" He said, body tense, ready to attack the second the human came close enough, longing to. He had every intention of making it quite the show, quick, but lethal. Perhaps even make a meal out of it. Unless the bodies would go cold of course, by the time they were done.

"Come on.. come closer, I could use a proper meal..." He mumbled, quietly , no human ear would hear it, and his tone was mocking.
Of course, his feeding habits had led up to these events unfolding, but he cared little. Hunger was a constant companion, almost painful at this point. It had been too long since he fed last, and he looked forward to making a meal out of these mortals.

The second his voice was spoken, the shadow began to tremble. Only seconds later did a thick black fog began to pour out of the shape, gathering in a tall cloud. The smoke condensed, revealing a monstrous form. Arms longer than his legs, the creature sulked forward. Wicked horns curled down the side of his head, a wicked, glowing white grin complimenting the solid black form.

"About damn time." He growled, flexing his clawed hands. The accumulation was the only positive from being dormant.

His massive head snapped in the direction of the approaching hunters. "Oh I will, don't worry your little head." He answered briefly before rushing forward in a cloud of smoke. The canines would be first. They would become an annoyance if allowed to coordinate against a target. Besides, they were oh so easy to tear through, he wouldn't be able to resist claiming the kills for himself. He kept a lazy eye on the man, this would have been all for nothing if he died meer minutes after agreeing.
